Help For Today

Help for today.

Many of our community's needy aren't looking for a handout. Sometimes all anyone needs is the kindness of a helping hand to get back on their feet. Our services include emergency financial assistance, counseling, transportation, emotional support and material goods such as clothing and furniture. As diverse as our programs are, they all work together to address emotional, spiritual and physical needs.

Emergency Assistance
We serve an average of 100 people in crisis every day, offering assistance with food, clothing, IDs, transportation, rent, utilities, medicine and more. As appropriate, we refer these individuals to other organizations for help.

Clothing and Furniture Bank
The Cooperative Ministry has provided clothing and furniture to the needy since 1982. Items donated by individuals, manufacturers, and congregations are provided at no cost to individuals or other agencies and shelters.

Counseling
Qualified professionals, both staff and volunteer, are available to help people sort through a wide range of issues by providing budget, job, crisis, and spiritual counseling.

Seasonal Services
School Supply Drive
This program helps to ensure that children in low-income families have the school supplies they need to be ready to learn. Congregations, organizations and businesses participate by either collecting these supplies or donating funds for their purchase, making it possible for us to have served thousands of families over the years.

The Circle of Giving
For children with little means, the joy of holiday gift giving is often out of reach. This one-day event enables children living in local shelters to experience the delight of finding the perfect gift for mom, dad, brother or sister. Through the program, children are taken to an area church, where they can select from gifts donated by the community and wrap them to give to parents, siblings, teachers and other important people in their lives.

Mission

We are a unique ministry of the Midlands community created to serve as an instrument of God’s love by providing a coordinated charitable response to assist those in need.

How We Do It

We seek to improve the quality of life for those we help by providing direct assistance, counseling, prayer, and guidance to other available community resources. We are enabled to do this through the support of  congregations, businesses, individuals, foundations and grants.

Why We Do It

We desire to honor God by reflecting Divine Compassion for those less fortunate as we lift the Midlands’ working poor out of crisis and poverty.
