For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Information is power. The Cooperative Ministry helps the working poor with free tax preparation and health insurance navigation. Individualized expert assistance helps families and individuals move out of poverty through informed life decisions in health insurance options and finances. Tax assistance is available to families making below $52,000 a year. Health care navigation is available to people with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level.
The Cooperative Ministry has volunteer tax experts who work individually with those in need to complete their taxes and to plan for the best use of their tax return. Too many people in poverty pay too much to have their taxes done and to get a fast return. Too many people who are financially unsophisticated are taken advantage of by a system that entices them in, charges them too much and takes a percentage of their return. The Cooperative Ministry has an army of volunteers who can help.

Health Care Insurance Website Navigation
Health navigators sit with individuals to guide them through the health care web site and provide information about implications of available choices. The site works. Time is of the essence. And people’s lives are literally at stake! With over 750,000 uninsured South Carolinians and over 25% of those living in the Midlands, The Cooperative Ministry and other partners provide trained navigators both at the Ministry and at designated sites in an 11 county area (Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Saluda, Orangeburg, Calhoun, Kershaw, Sumter, York and Greenville).
