story_cindy

A nurse assistant and single mother of two. Cindy came into The Cooperative Ministry requesting assistance with her water bill.

She had held down steady employment for years, and had never asked for assistance before. Upon reviewing her earning & spending structure, it became evident that she should have money to cover her bills. Yet, her family was facing disconnection of their water service. When asked why she didn’t have the money for the payment, she explained she had faced unexpected expenses associated with her daughter’s graduation from High School. Without payment, the high school would not release her daughter’s diploma – which she needed in order to enroll in college – to NC State, where she had been accepted on a full athletic scholarship. What mother in the same position, would choose to pay the water bill? None I know of.
