For months, Elena worried, prayed, and lived in fear of next week's bills. She is a single mom with a three-year-old, and her job with a temp agency ended last October. Unemployed, Elena scrambled and found a job offering less pay but grabbed it anyway while looking for better employment. In February, she found that better job with living wages and a few benefits. But, from October to February, her unemployment resulted in depleted savings. She also fell far behind on her utility bill. In a crisis, she reached out to The Cooperative Ministry for our help with a "new beginning," as she described it.
